Baen Books Announces Winner of the 2024 Baen Fantasy Adventure Award
Arlen Feldman takes home the top prize for his short story “The Wish Doctor.”
RIVERDALE, NEW YORK, 2024—Baen Books is pleased to announce Arlen Feldman as the grand prize winner of the 2024 Baen Fantasy Adventure Award for short fiction. Feldman’s story “The Wish Doctor” was selected by Baen editorial staff and special guest judge, Baen author Howard Andrew Jones. Second place was awarded to Shannon Fox for her story “Water-Witching.” The third-place winner was J.M. Roberts for her story “Hall of Heroes.” Also, honorable mentions go to “Bullfrog County Atomic Jackalope Rescue” by Robert F. Lowell, and “Drinking Plot Holes” by David Hankins.
Started in 2014, this is the eleventh annual Baen Fantasy Adventure Award. The award will be presented by Baen publisher Toni Weisskopf at DragonCon, which takes place in Atlanta, Georgia, from August 29 through September 2, 2024. Baen Books presents this award to honor stories exemplifying the spirit of adventure, imagination, and great storytelling in a work of short fiction with a fantastic setting, whether epic fantasy, heroic fantasy, sword and sorcery, or contemporary fantasy.
As the grand prize winner, Feldman, will receive an engraved award and a prize package containing various Baen Books. “There are so many Baen authors whose work I love. I am thrilled, grateful (and somewhat amazed) to have my story chosen for the Baen Fantasy Adventure Award!” Feldman exclaimed upon receiving word of his win.
His story “The Wish Doctor” will be a featured story on the Baen.com main page starting September 2024 and available in the Baen Free Library after that.
