A Classic Novel of Adventure in Time and Alternate Worlds by a Best-Selling Master of Science Fiction—Plus Stories Set in the Same Universe by David Weber, Harry Turtledove, Walter John Williams, Jane Lindskold, John Maddox Roberts and More Top Writers.

Mike Gabrieli’s brother Tom had mysteriously disappeared after gaining pos- session of a priceless Aztec artifact. Mike sets out to find his brother, never suspecting that he is about to be shuttled back and forth in time, and between alternate universes. The descendants of the Incas plan to keep Pizarro and his conquistadors from overthrowing their ancestors’ empire. In spite of Mike’s sympathy for their cause, if he helps them he may wipe out the world he was born into, and himself along with it.

In addition to Fred Saberhagen’s classic novel The Mask of the Sun, seven top writers have contributed stories set in the same universe, including NY Times best-selling authors David Weber and Harry Turtledove. expanding on Fred Saberhagen’s concept in this volume of exciting alternate history adventure.

About the Author

Fred Saberhagen was the top-selling author of many popular science fiction and fantasy series, told in over forty novels and sixty short stories. His Berserkers menaced the universe for over 40 years. His “Swords” and “Lost Swords” stories caught the imagination of many fantasy readers. Equally intriguing are his exploits in the area of historical fantasy where figures such as Hitler and Lincoln, Daedalus and the pharaohs, populated his alternate worlds. On the border of history and fantasy he created a unique picture of an old favorite, Dracula. Many of his works also appeared in audio and e-book format. Before abandoning himself to imagination, he served in the US Air Force, worked as a civilian electronics technician, and wrote and edited articles on science and technology for the Encyclopedia Britannica. Born and raised in Chicago, he later lived and worked with his wife, Joan Spicci, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he died in 2007.

Best-selling author  Fred Saberhagen created three popular series: his Berserker stories and novels telling of the endless war of humans and their alien allies against the Berserkers, gigantic robot battleships programmed by an unknown extinct race to destroy all life in the galaxy; his high fantasy Lost Swords series; and his Dracula series, the first novels to tell a story from the vampire's point of view. In a book that will be irresistible for the thousands of Saberhagen fans, all three series are represented here, as well as gems from his other series, including his first-published story and his last-written story, marking the endpoints of a remarkable writer's remarkable career that spanned more than four decades As Joan Spicci Saberhagen writes in her foreword, "Even Fred's most ardent fans will have a fresh look at his talents. Whatever the setting, Fred's stories provide fast moving action and a thought provoking theme."

Berserker Kill: A Berserker has stolen a biolab filled with human zygotes. Can its pursuers discover its secret plan before it's too late

THE NEWEST NOVEL IN ONE OF
SCIENCE FICTION'S MOST POPULAR SERIES

Harry Silver has already had a lifetime of trouble from ordinary Berserkers®, the automated killing machines programmed an age ago to denude the galaxy of life. Now when his own family is kidnapped, he faces a deviant machine, a good fit for some or all of the Galactic Dictionary's definitions of ROGUE:

(1) A deceitful, double-dealing evildoer .. .

(4) A fierce elephant or stamodont that has been banished from the herd . . .

(10) Having a peculiarly malevolent or unstable nature . . .

(11) No longer loyal, affiliated, or recognized, and hence not governable or accountable . . . erring, apostate.

— Galactic Dictionary of the Common Tongue

Ordinary Berserkers armed with weapons powerful enough to kill an entire planet were enough of a nightmare. What worse deviltry will a killing machine gone rogue attempt—and even if Silver can stop it, will he ever see his family alive again

SHE SANG BEYOND THE GENIUS OF THE SEA,
AND HE HEARD...

As children they met and built sand castles on a beach out of space and time: Edgar Perry, Little Annie, and Edgar Allan Poe.... Fifteen years later, Perry meets Annie again, all grown up and beautiful - and in the real world. She warns him of his mortal peril, then flees for Europe on a mysterious black ship.

Perry is recruited by a fabulously wealthy man to follow that ship to Europe where he meets the famed detective Auguste Dupin, has an encounter with a Maelstrom and a black raven, has a run in with a Pit and a Pendulum, and lives many more of the stories his alter ego, Edgar Allan Poe, wrote. He and Poe have exchanged places: Perry will thrive in the dark, romantic world where lead can be transmuted to gold, ravens can speak, orangutans can commit murder, and beautiful women are easy to come by; while Poe is now doomed to live out his life a misfit, and end as a pauper, a drunk, and a genius....

". .. original and truly excellent. . . . One of the strangest and most compelling fantasies I've ever read."
Science Fiction Chronicle

"Two excellent authors have mes styles, imaginations, and visions of Poe good effect here . . . recommended. .
Booklist

". . . intelligent, lively, fun-loving adventures ... an awful lot of fun."

A hundred years ago Count Dracula, Vlad Tepes to some, joined forces with Sherlock Holmes in a pact of blood and honor. Herein his new biographer picks up the thread of the Count's adventures:

Book I:

As an old friend of the family, Dracula is faced with a nest of evil vampires-evil enough, as the Count can attest, to make a vampire shudder.

Book II:

A L0VE AFFAIR FOR THE AGES ...

Five hundred years ago their paths first crossed. He possessed her totally, not quite against her will. Until she fled. And was captured. And was punished. And is fleeing still.

OR A LIVING HORROR THAT HAS LOOSED
THE BONDS OF TIME

Publisher's Note: Vlad Tapes has been published in parts as An Old Friend of the Family and Thorn. This is the first unitary edition.

We're almost convinced of it ... he's a persuasive devil. He'll have you cheering. . . ."
