Audio Drama Debuts as Four-Part Miniseries on Baen Free Radio Hour Podcast
RIVERDALE, NY—SEPTEMBER 10, 2014. The Baen Free Radio Hour podcast and Baen Books will present a four-part, full cast audio play adaptation of "Islands," a novella by Eric Flint set within the world of the Belisarius alternate history series created by Eric Flint and David Drake. The miniseries will begin with a thirty minute episode on the September 19, 2014 Baen Free Radio Hour podcast, and will continue with new episodes on September 26, October 3, and a conclusion on October 10. The serialized podcast will remain free for download via the podcast. After the miniseries is complete, the entire audio drama will be for sale at Baenebooks.com.
The miniseries debuts with all original music, and a film-quality, full effects soundtrack accompanying a cast of fifteen professional voice actors. The adaptation was written by Baen editor and author Tony Daniel and directed by well-regarded director Jerome Davis.
"The story takes place in the latter days of the Roman Empire," says Daniel. "A being from the future shows up bringing technological knowledge, and so the Romans in 'Islands' have the telegraph, muzzle loading rifles, and steam powered ships. In the midst of all this we have an epic love story playing out."
Daniel adds that along with war zone action, the story has a strong and heroic female lead, a Roman noblewoman who becomes a crusader for wounded soldiers on her way to the front.
"There's something in the play for everyone," Daniel says.
