Winner of the Baen Fantasy Adventure Award
Riverdale, New York, August 2016—Baen Books is pleased to announce Shawn Snider as the grand prize winner of the 2016 Baen Fantasy Adventure Award for short fiction. Snider’s story “The Lavender Paladin” was selected by Baen editorial staff. Second place was awarded to Anthony Lowe for his story “Gunfight at the Thornmount Colossus.” The third place winners were Joel and F.I. Goldhaber for their story “Watching the Door.”
Started in 2014, this is the third annual Baen Fantasy Adventure Award. The award was presented by bestselling Baen author Eric Flint this weekend at Gen Con, the oldest and best attended gaming convention in the world. Baen is a proud partner of Gen Con’s Writer’s Symposium and presents this award to honor stories exemplifying the spirit of adventure, imagination, and great storytelling in a work of short fiction with a fantastic setting, whether epic fantasy, heroic fantasy, sword and sorcery, or contemporary fantasy.
On hand to emcee the Baen festivities, Baen executive editor Jim Minz said, “Our third year has been the best year yet. Each year the overall quality of submitted stories has only gotten better. We are excited to continue to grow this award and highlight the very best in fantasy storytelling.”
As the grand prize winner, Snider, who was on hand with his family in Indianapolis, received an engraved award, and a prize package containing various Baen Books. Snider describes himself as “the product of a good home, a supportive wife, and years and years of reading and people-watching.”
His story “The Lavender Paladin” will be a featured story on Baen.com main page starting September 16th, 2016 until October 16th, 2016 and available at the Baen Free Library after that.
