OLD GODS AND NEW
"Is that the type of follower I must have?" Tek seemed genuinely shocked.
Mentor smiled slightly, almost seeming to enjoy the godling's discomfort. After a pause that was several seconds longer than needed, he nodded.
"No!" Tek protested. "That is not how a war should be fought. Once perhaps, but no more!"
Again Mentor nodded. Then he spoke slowly, choosing his words carefully. "You are young. We all were once. There is much you do not yet understand. Chinese Gordon was hero of another war god."
Tek stood, uncertain as to how to reply. He knew there were other gods, that he could sense, but virtually nothing about them. Finally the war god spoke.
"Tell me of the other gods." His voice was mild, but edged with urgency.
"Which ones?" Mentor asked. "There are thousands. Men have worshiped trees, or rainbows, or gods so dark I shudder to call their name." The teacher sighed. "I suppose you mean the young gods, the ones who rule today?"
"No," Tek corrected. "I know how to be new. Show me a tale of an old god. One that shows me what the other war gods are like."
